Mrs. Bearden's Weekly Update

May 19, 2025

Dear Eagle Canyon Families,

Wow! It's the last week of school. I feel like the second half of the year flew by.

I would like to thank all the families who made our annual Tailgate a huge success. The kids had so much fun celebrating the end of the year.

We are starting a new tradition at Eagle Canyon. The graduating Ayala students are coming to Eagle Canyon to visit where it all began before they start their next chapter in life. They will start at kindergarten and walk their way to sixth grade. We will finish in the MPR, where they can take a picture with the mural documenting their K-12 journey. I am excited to begin this tradition for our students.

This week, we learned that Mr. Choi will serve as the full-time assistant principal at Walnut Elementary for the 2025-26 school year. He has embraced our community and has been an asset to our campus. We are very sad to lose him.

Eagle Canyon will have a full-time assistant principal next year. As soon as we know who it will be, we will announce it.

Important Reminders

Wednesday and Thursday are both minimum days. Dismissal is 11:20 for grades 1-6. Friday is the first day of summer break for the students. We hope you have a wonderful summer!

FIFTH & SIXTH GRADE STUDENTS
The fifth and sixth-grade students will take their devices home for the summer. They must bring them to school on the first day of school in August. Please remember that while the devices are checked out to students, they still belong to the school district. Students need to avoid changing the settings that could affect the functionality of the device.

ATTEND TODAY, ACHIEVE TOMORROW

Eagle Canyon's student attendance will be a focus this year. Attendance in school leads to better performance for children when they are adults.

Please make illness the only reason for an absence. When your child misses school, they miss out on necessary instruction, and it takes a while for them to get caught up. Parents of students at risk of Chronic Absenteeism will have to meet with Mrs. Bearden or Mr. Choi to sign an agreement to improve overall attendance.

We missed our district attendance goal by .14%. Thank you for getting students to school on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, the three days we met the goal. In the Ayala Feeder, we are in third place for attendance. Let's continue to make attendance a priority.

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS ON THE MARQUEE

Another way you can support our PTA and celebrate your child's birthday is to purchase a birthday greeting for $25 that will be displayed on your child's birthday and run for one week. If interested, please stop by the office, complete the request, and submit the payment. Please be sure to plan. We need two weeks' notice before the birthday to ensure everything is timed correctly.

The kids get so excited seeing their birthday highlighted on the marquee. Out of safety, we will never publish your child's last name, only the initial.

MAY CHARACTER TRAIT

Each month, Eagle Canyon will focus on teaching students about a character trait. We will share it during our Monday Morning Rallies, and teachers will reinforce it by recognizing one student each month for a monthly award.

SUPPORT EAGLE CANYON

A popular fundraising opportunity all families can support is Box Tops. Download the Box Top app on your phone. You must scan your receipts on the Box Top app within 14 days of purchasing. The app will let you know if any purchased items qualify to earn 10 cents per product. If there are not any items, you will still have an opportunity to enter the sweepstakes to win 500 bonus Box Tops. Every receipt has the potential to earn our school money.

As of today, our school has earned $70.10 this year. Our goal is to earn $500. Please return the coupons to the school office if you also get them. Be sure to select the grade level that you want to support. Thank you in advance for your support!
